GTSI promotes practice leader to chief technology officer

Jim Sweeney will steer company's integrated solutions and services offerings

GTSI Corp. has named Jim Sweeney chief technology officer and the company’s strategist for its integrated solutions and services offerings.

Sweeney will report to Sterling Phillips, GTSI's chief executive officer, according to a Sept. 1 company announcement.

In addition, Sweeney will lead key cross-organization engineering panels, which include performance metrics/certification and industry certification standards for engineers.

Sweeney has more than 35 years of experience in the development and integration of a broad range of enterprise IT applications and technologies.

For the last four years, he has led GTSI's Virtualization and Cloud Computing Consulting Practice, working with federal, state and local agencies on a variety of technical solutions primarily focused in the areas of server, desktop and application virtualization, as well as storage virtualization and consolidation.

Earlier this year, he served as a deputy commissioner on TechAmerica's Commission on the Leadership Opportunity in U.S. Deployment of the Cloud.

GTSI, of Herndon, Va., ranks No. 68 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
