Boeing, Siemens create alliance to chase energy opportunities

Boeing Co. and Siemens have formed a strategic alliance to provide smart grid technologies to improve energy access and security for the Defense Department.

The alliance will focus on secure microgrid management solutions for military installations that can lower operational costs and increase energy efficiency.

“This collaboration will make a real difference in how the DOD uses energy,” Tim Noonan, vice president of Boeing Energy, said in a statement.

The alliance draws on Boeing’s expertise with complex systems and technologies, and Siemens’ energy management capabilities.

The move comes as the government is stepping up its energy initiatives to become more cost effective and efficient. Earlier this week, the Army announced the formation of a task force to target renewable energy solutions.

The Boeing/Siemens alliance will focus on solutions that can:

  • Implement economical energy-efficiency tools for analysis, control and automation of energy processes.
  • Use smart energy controls to provide real-time data.
  • Integrate renewable energy solutions and storage.

The alliance will provide engineering and construction services, network and smart-grid integration, cybersecurity, energy efficiency, energy management and storage, alternative energy integration, climate monitoring and training maintenance.
