Harris wins peach of a radio contract in Georgia

Contractor will deploy digital radio system across Floyd County

Harris Corp. will deploy a digital radio system to support public-safety first responders across Floyd County, Ga., under a $23.6 million contract.

The 10-site, 800 MHz, trunked system known as Project 25 to the power of Internet Protocol, or Harris P25IP, will provide reliable, mission-critical communications across the county's 518 square miles, enabling interoperable communications with local, state and federal agencies in the area, according to a Harris announcement.

The system will be P25 Phase 2-ready and can serve as the network core of the Northwest Georgia Interoperability Network in the near term, reducing Floyd County's total ownership costs.

"The P25IP system complies with federal narrowband requirements, supports our emergency response capabilities and meets the immediate and future communications needs of our community," said Eddie Lumsden, chairman of the Floyd County Commission, in the announcement.

Harris Corp., of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 13 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
