Medical marijuana creates budding business opportunity

Start-ups offer cannabis clinics tailored software tools for compliance and financial management

California's medical marijuana industry has sprung up so fast it has attracted firms offering compliance and financial software to help clinics stay on top of all the rules surrounding the budding industry, IDG News Service reports.

The cannabis clinics have "an unbelievable number of unique requirements" due to changing government regulations, Mark Goldfogel, founder of Colorado-based MJ Freeway, told the wire service. The company offers a Web-based system that helps the dispensaries with financial audits, inventory tracking, compliance and security issues.

Most of his customers had been using simple spreadsheets and other office software, Goldfogel said.
