Alion hires retired Army general to boost DOD operations

Charles Fletcher Jr. is named group senior vice president and manager

Alion Science and Technology Corp. has hired retired Army Maj. Gen. Charles Fletcher Jr. as group senior vice president and manager of the Strategic Operations Group.

He will lead a business unit supporting the technical and operational needs of customers throughout the Defense Department, delivering expertise in areas that include training, testing and evaluation, logistics and program management, according to an Alion announcement today.

Fletcher joins Alion from the Boeing Corp., where he initially served as director of logistics command and control and later as the director of that company’s Advanced Global Services and Support Division.

Fletcher retired from the Army after 34 years of active service. His last position was as the director of operations and plans (J3), U.S. Transportation Command.

Prior to that assignment, he served as the Commanding General at the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command.

Fletcher is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned a master’s degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and a Master of Science degree in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University in Washington D.C.

Alion Science and Technology Corp., of McLean, Va., ranks No. 41 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
