Apptis, SAIC win $635M DISA contract extensions

Modifications add more value to DISN project

Apptis Inc. and Science Applications International Corp. have been awarded two contract modifications by the Defense Information Systems Agency that will add two six-month option periods and increase the ceiling amount of the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts to $4.8 billion from $4.2 billion, an increase of $635 million dollars.

The optional extensions and monetary increase of the contracts will ensure continuous, uninterrupted services under the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) Global Solutions (DGS) contracts as the government recompetes the associated efforts, according to the Defense Department.

The DGS contracts are open for use by all federal agencies whenever the requirement is associated with the life cycle management of DISN.

Those efforts include, but are not limited to, program management, cost/schedule, management, financial management, systems engineering, hardware and software management, test and evaluation, manufacturing, engineering, logistics, and other services required for DISN support, according to the DOD announcement.

The Defense IT Contracting Organization at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., is the contracting authority.

SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors. Apptis, of Chantilly, Va., ranks No. 35.

Please correct this article ... you don't win extensions, you get awarded an extension. This has nothing to do with performance excellence, yet it is another example of the acquisition ineptness.

Had the government held a competition, they would have reduced annual expenses significantly. Threre is a budget crisis and acquisition is broken ... good for the contractors
