CGI to continue operational IT care for CMS

The award calls for the U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group Inc. to continue software development and operational support services for the Provider Enrollment Chain Ownership System (PECOS), including Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) registration and attestation functionality, according to a company statement today.
PECOS supports Medicare’s provider and supplier enrollment process by capturing provider/supplier information. The system manages, tracks and validates enrollment data collected in both paper form and electronically. The system also plays a key role in the agency’s effort to combat fraud, the statement said.
CMS’ HITECH Registration and Attestation process automatically extracts secured provider data from PECOS to help identify eligibility for incentive payments for adopting electronic health records technology.
The task order stems from CMS’ indefinite delivery, indefinite-quantity Enterprise System Development contract, which was included in CGI Group’s first-quarter fiscal 2011 bookings that tallied almost $550 million, according to the company.
As its largest public sector unit, CGI Federal Inc. “contributed significantly from all sectors (defense and civilian) to the strong quarter’s bookings – the company’s first full quarter of combined operations following the acquisition of Stanley Inc.,” the statement said.
Other first-quarter awards cited included CGI’s selection as one of 11 companies awarded a governmentwide Blanket Purchase Agreement from the General Services Administration for cloud-based infrastructure as a service; selection as the ERP vendor for the city of Mesa, Ariz., for $15.6 million; $18 million in contracts in support of the Marine Corps Systems Command Training and Education Command; and a $22 million task order by the Environmental Protection Agency for support of its agency-wide call center.
CGI Group Inc., of Montreal, Que., ranks No. 82 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
