Savi selects former Sony Ericsson exec as first CTO

Savi Technology, a Lockheed Martin company, has named William Maggs to the newly created position of chief technology officer. He also will serve as senior vice president of technology operations. In his dual roles, he will be the chief catalyst for innovation as well as the focal point for all technology operations.

Savi Technology, a Lockheed Martin company, has named William Maggs to the newly created position of chief technology officer; he also will serve concurrently as senior vice president of technology operations.

In his dual roles as CTO and senior vice president, Maggs will be the chief catalyst for innovation as well as the focal point for all technology operations throughout the global company, according to a company announcement today.

He also oversee the design, development and delivery of wireless products and software solutions in public sector and commercial markets, as well as the Savi Technology Innovation Lab, which is involved in product manufacturing, supply chain management and supplier relationships.

Prior to joining Savi Technology, Maggs headed the developer and partner programs at Sony Ericsson in Redwood City, Calif., in charge of a North America-based team of engineers, product managers and business developers.

He previously served as CTO at Palm Inc., where he oversaw advanced research and development in systems software, chips, display, and other hardware and software.

Maggs also was a director of technology at Motorola, working in the company’s mobile device business; chief network officer at Inktomi; and Distinguished Technical Staff member at MCI Internet Engineering.

Lockheed Martin Corp., of Bethesda, Md., ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal contractors.
