SAIC to provide IT assistance to Navy sealift command

Contractor will help enable ashore and afloat communications

Science Applications International Corp. will provide information technology services to the Navy under a five-year award that has a total value of more than $49 million.

The prime follow-on contract from the Navy’s Military Sealift Command, Washington, D.C., calls for SAIC to provide data center, IT and disaster recovery site support.

Under the contract, SAIC will help enable ashore and afloat communications, including IT services, for MSC ships as they deliver supplies and conduct specialized missions throughout the world, according to the contractor’s announcement today.

Work will be performed primarily at MSC headquarters at the Washington Navy Yard, and in Norfolk, Va., Pensacola, Fla., and San Diego.

The MSC operates approximately 110 noncombatant, civilian-crewed ships that replenish U.S. Navy ships, conduct specialized missions, strategically position cargo at sea, and move military cargo and supplies used by deployed U.S. forces and coalition partners.

SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal contractors.
