GTSI signs deal for cloud infrastructure services

Company joins forces with Terremark to deliver enterprise cloud services to government

Another government contractor is jumping into the cloud computing market. This time it's GTSI Corp., which announced Thursday that it has formed a strategic relationship with Terremark Worldwide.

Terremark provides information technology infrastructure services as a cloud computing service.

The relationship will allow GTSI to expand its cloud computing infrastructure offerings NASA Solutions for Enterprise Wide Procurement (SEWP) and Army Information Technology Enterprise Solutions (ITES) 2H contract vehicles.

How long will cloud's reality trail the hype?

The infrastructure as a service offering will let agencies address increasing demands on government IT while reducing energy usage, facilitating telework, and decreasing operational costs and maintaining security, GTSI said in a statement.

Agencies that buy the GTSI-Terremark offering will be able to share and use IT resources such as computing, storage and network capacity. Other features include:

  • Rapidly deploy on-demand capacity to support business needs.
  • Increase flexibility by easy access to bursting capacity during spikes in Web traffic.
  • Offer cost management transparency.
  • Provide a high level of service and security.

“The shift to cloud computing allows agencies to harness the power of the Internet to improve services to end users and citizens, while freeing up scarce capital, staff resources and IT assets for mission-critical investments,” said Mohamed Elrefai, GTSI vice president of enterprise solutions and marketing.

GTSI, of Herndon, Va., is ranked No. 59 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.
