SRA continues to support FAA on airport technology research
$57m R&D award includes runway safety testing, airline fire procedures

SRA International Inc. will continue to provide technical support to the Federal Aviation Administration under a five-year contract valued at approximately $57 million.
The single-award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract calls for Systems Research and Applications Corp., an SRA subsidiary, to continue supporting the airport technology research and development program at the FAA’s William J. Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, N.J., according to a July 12 SRA announcement.
The Hughes center operates, among other things, a state-of-the-art, full-scale, airport pavement test facility that provides high-quality data from rigid and flexible pavement subjected to simulated aircraft traffic, SRA said.
Under this contract, SRA will provide R&D services in the areas of airport pavement design and testing; aircraft rescue and fire fighting; wildlife hazards; bird strike mitigation; and runway surface technology.
The contract also will allow SRA to provide additional services to the FAA in the areas of airport capacity analysis and planning, enhanced visual guidance and lighting technologies and advanced materials testing.
SRA and its subsidiaries provide a wide range of engineering and support services as well as next-generation air traffic management tools that address core challenges like safety, cyber security, efficiency and functionality, the company announcement said.
SRA International, of Fairfax, Va., ranks No. 30 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
