HP tasked with speeding DHS immigration status probes

HP Enterprise Services will provide application services to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Hewlett-Packard Co. will help the Homeland Security Department speed internal processing of immigration status under a $41.6 million contract.

The DHS Eagle contract task order calls for HP Enterprise Services to provide application services to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Law Enforcement Support Center.

The LESC is a critical point of contact for the national law enforcement community, providing a wide range of informational services to officers and investigators at the local, state and federal levels, according to an HP announcement today.

The LESC operates around the clock to provide timely and accurate information to law enforcement officers on the immigration status. The center also provides identities of individuals who have been arrested or are under investigation for criminal activity.

According to the terms of the task order, HP will automate the existing manual status determination process, develop warrant creation, jail roster/release and criminal alien tracking as well as integrated case management services.

To achieve this, HP will deliver applications development services that provide critical information and decision-making capabilities to ICE. The new applications services include requirements gathering, design, development, testing, integration, implementation and maintenance support, the announcement said.

The new contract, which supports the DHS Secure Communities initiative issued last year, will become ICE’s fifth applications operations and maintenance contract with HP.

Hewlett-Packard Co./EDS, of Palo Alto, Calif., ranks No. 12 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
