Alion upgrades Navy logistics support systems

Contractor will support the Naval Operational Logistics Support Center

Alion Science and Technology Corp. is helping the Navy upgrade its logistics support systems under a three-year, $15 million contract.

The award calls for Alion to support the Naval Operational Logistics Support Center (NOLSC) as it integrates and modernizes its logistics support systems that support deployable units in the Navy and Coast Guard, the company announced in a statement released today.

Under the management services contract, Alion will assist the NOLSC with logistics planning, modeling and simulation, concept generation and development, and manning, personnel and training analysis.

The contractor also will conduct the front-end assessment for the Littoral Combat Ship, which will serve as the basis for all manning, personnel and training decisions affecting end strengths and budgets, according to the Alion statement.

The NOLSC’s logistics support systems provide data to modeling and simulation software for distribution optimization programs and ship loading. These systems are vital to efficiently integrate the Navy’s logistics support into a joint environment, Alion said.

“Alion will help NOLSC realize a reduction in ownership costs and time efficiencies and help reduce manpower shipboard levels,” said Greg Bryant, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Integration Solutions Group, in the statement.

He added that the work also will allow the Navy to take advantage of modeling and simulation products to meet the diverse logistics requirements imposed on the Navy by the service branches.

The NOLSC analyzes, conceives and integrates new logistics models and technologies for implementation in deployment scenarios. The center also works with other Navy and Joint agencies to develop the vision, strategy, integration training and management concepts to execute transportation/distribution optimization and strategic mobility training across the Navy and Coast Guard, Alion said.

The contract runs from March 1, 2010 to Feb. 28, 2013.

Alion Science and Technology, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 39 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
