Perot aids upgrade of DOT’s common operating environment

Added as a subcontractor, Perot could earn $65 million in work

Perot Systems Government Services will provide information technology services to support the Transportation Department’s Common Operating Environment under a 10-year contract worth more than $65 million.

Under the award, Perot Systems will act as a subcontractor to ActioNet Inc., a small business that provides information systems solutions to the federal government and industry clients, according to a statement released today by Perot Systems.

Overall, the contract is worth between $120 million and $130 million.

Perot Systems will provide seat and e-mail management, infrastructure services, hosting services, program management and other services to help DOT meet its end-user needs and business requirements, the statement said.

The company also will support DOT’s strategic plan to extend its Common Operating Environment (COE) to field locations and further consolidate the department’s enterprise IT environment.

Major goals of consolidation include: increasing the stability, consistency and security of IT services while lowering total cost of ownership by reducing redundancy and applying standardization and process maturity.

Successful implementation of the COE contract will enable DOT to provide and support an infrastructure that meets its enterprise IT requirements and improves end-user services, response times, and overall performance, the Perot statement said.

Recently acquired by Dell Corp., Perot Systems Government Services has been providing DOT with IT services since October 2004.

ActioNet, of Vienna, Va., announced it had won the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity COE contract on July 8, 2009.

Dell, of Round Rock, Texas, ranks No. 15 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
