St. Louis firm aids in largest DOD medical training consolidation

Two-year contract calls for technology and supply chain assistance

World Wide Technology Inc. will assist in the largest consolidation of military medical training in Defense Department history, thanks to a two-year, $27 million contract for technical and supply chain assistance.

The award is designed to meet the technology and supply chain needs of the Tri-Service Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, according to a WWT announcement dated March 16.

The contract calls for the systems integrator to provide servers, storage, networking, wireless, unified communications, and call center assistance. The firm will also provide audio-visual, teleconferencing, virtualization, staging, configuration, software imaging, integration, warehousing and logistics services.

When completed, the METC will be the world’s largest medical education and training institution.

The average daily student load is expected to be 9,000, with an annual training roster of 47,000 students.

The 11 facilities under construction include three 1,200-student dormitories, a dining facility, five medical instruction facilities, a Navy and Air Force command center, and a field training site located at Camp Bullis, outside San Antonio.

WWT offers a complete array of configuration and integration services and a full suite of advanced logistics, inventory management and supply chain services.

World Wide Technology, of St. Louis, ranks No. 46 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
