L-3 doubles down on intell, imagery work

A pair of DOD awards could net the company a quarter billion dollars

L-3 Communications Corp. has won two Defense Department contracts for intelligence support that have a combined value of more than $255 million.

L-3 successfully recompeted a firm-fixed-fee contract that will extend to November 2012. Under the $230.9 million agreement, L-3’s Stratis division will provide intelligence support services to U.S. and multinational forces in Iraq.

The company will provide program management, counterintelligence support, intelligence analysis, intelligence planning and multimedia exploitation services at forward operating bases and facilities throughout Iraq.

The work on this contract will be performed in Iraq and in Tampa, Fla.

The second award, valued at $24.8 million, calls for L-3 to provide imagery analysis services to support the U.S. Special Operations Command. This competitively-won cost-plus-fixed-fee contract includes the initial base year and four option years, with a scope of service extending to November 2014.

Both contracts were awarded late last year, but L-3 was not permitted to announce them until now, a company public affairs spokeswoman said.

L-3 Communications, of New York City, ranks No. 8 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.

Quick change. "Stratis" should be STRATIS. Thanks.
