GSA's new administrator sworn in by phone during snowstorm
Martha Johnson officially became GSA administrator two days after being confirmed by the Senate
A massive snowstorm could not stop Martha Johnson from being sworn in as the new administrator for the General Services Administration. Johnson was sworn into office over the phone on Feb. 7, just two days after being confirmed by the Senate, according to a GSA spokeswoman.
Acting Administrator Steve Leeds called Johnson at her home to administer the oath of office, with Johnson's husband serving as the official witness. A town hall forum for GSA employees is scheduled for Feb. 16, when Johnson will be sworn in again, according to GSA.
The Senate voted 96-0 in favor of Johnson on Feb. 5. She will be the first administrator since April 2008, when Lurita Doan left the office.
