Horizon continues to focus on HUD insurance processing

New $10M contract continues small business work at Atlanta center

Horizon Consulting Inc. will continue to provide home insurance processing for the Housing and Urban Development Department’s Atlanta Home Ownership Center under a five-year contract valued at $10 million.

The new contract calls for the Lansdowne, Va., small business to continue providing insurance endorsement processing services for the Atlanta center, which Horizon has been doing for more than 10 years, company officials said.

Home ownership centers insure single family Federal Housing Authority mortgages and oversee the selling of HUD homes.

The Atlanta Home Ownership Center serves the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, as well as the Caribbean, according to HUD's Web site.

A recently completed HUD audit revealed that the number of loans approved by the FHA in fiscal 2008 more than tripled from fiscal 2007. To meet the increase in application volume, Horizon has been hiring and training new employees.

The company is processing well over 10,000 mortgage insurance applications a month, said Glennice James, senior project manager for Horizon’s Atlanta operations.

Horizon Consulting is a minority and women-owned business that has been working with HUD since 1994. The company also serves HUD’s Philadelphia, Denver and Santa Ana, Calif., home ownership centers.
