BAE fills spot vacated by Hudson's promotion
Robert Murphy will serve as president of Systems Land and Armaments Group

BAE Systems Inc. has named Robert “Bob” Murphy president of its Systems Land and Armaments Group, succeeding Linda Hudson, who was recently appointed president and chief executive offer.
Murphy, who also has been the group’s acting president since Hudson’s promotion, will serve on BAE Systems’ Executive Committee.
Murphy has been executive vice president of the group since November 2008 responsible for meeting customer requirements, financial commitments, and the continuous improvement of the division.
BAE’s Land and Armaments unit is the world’s largest military vehicle and equipment business, with operations in South Africa, Sweden, Germany, Turkey, France, the United Kingdom and the United States, according to a company statement.
He previously was senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer, responsible for financial accountability for the company’s U.S.-based operating groups in the U.S., U.K., Sweden and South Africa.
Murphy, who joined BAE Systems in 1999 following 18 years at General Electric Co., also has served as president of BAE Systems Technology Solutions Sector, a provider of technical and professional services to the U.S. Defense Department, federal civilian agencies and the homeland security markets.
BAE Systems, of Rockville, Md., ranks No. 14 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
