DRS Technologies closes Soneticom buy

Acquisition boosts intelligence, electronic warfare capabilities

DRS Technologies Inc. has completed its purchase of Soneticom Inc., a provider of geolocation systems, wireless communications protocols and digital signal processing. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Soneticom’s expertise in applications development and product engineering will complement DRS’ existing communications capabilities, DRS officials said Sept. 16.

The acquisition will boost the company's offerings to its military customers in the areas of communications intelligence and electronic warfare, officials said. It also will fuel future growth in the intelligence systems business, they said.

Soneticom, based in Melbourne, Fla., is now part of DRS’ Defense Solutions Group.

DRS, of Parsippany, N.J., is a unit of Italy’s Finmeccanica S.p.A. DRS ranks No. 23 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
