SAIC snaps up R.W. Beck

Acquisition boosts capabilities in infrastructure protection, emergency response and disaster recovery

Science Applications International Corp. will acquire R.W. Beck Group Inc., a provider of consulting services in the areas of engineering, energy and infrastructure. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The purchase will strengthen SAIC’s capabilities and offerings in such service areas as infrastructure protection, risk management, emergency response and disaster recovery, company officials said July 6. The acquisition is scheduled to close in early August.

R.W. Beck, of Seattle, offers business and technical consulting services to utility organizations, government agencies, financial institutions and other commercial customers. The agreement includes the purchase of Beck Disaster Recovery, an emergency management consultancy specializing in preparedness and planning, recovery and reconstruction services, business continuity and emergency operations planning, and other services to state and local agencies.

R.W. Beck will join SAIC’s Infrastructure, Logistics and Product Solutions Group, led by President Joe Craver.

Beck’s core consulting and engineering organization will be assigned to the group’s Energy, Environment and Infrastructure business unit, while Beck Disaster Recovery will become part of the group’s Homeland Protection and Preparedness business unit.

SAIC ranks No. 7 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
