L-1 to buy Digimarc's ID assets

L-1 Identity Solutions Inc. of Stamford, Conn., will
buy Digimarc Corp.'s identification systems business
for $250 million.

The acquisition will let L-1 combine Beaverton,
Ore.-based Digimarc's centralized credentials production
expertise with its biometric and authentication
capabilities. Digimarc will retain its digital
watermarking business.

L-3 Communications buys HSA

L-3 Communications Corp. of New York, bought geospatial,
marine and electronic systems maker HSA
Systems Pty Ltd. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The North Sydney, Australia, company supplies
nautical charts, customized software and information
technology systems to maritime and defense
customers, including the Royal Australian Navy and
Land Information New Zealand.

EDS opts for Nexagent

EDS Corp. bought Nexagent Ltd., a provider of
hardware and software for networks and advanced
IP services based in Reading, England. Financial
terms were not disclosed.

EDS of Plano, Texas, will use Nexagent's technology
to cut connection expenses and installation
time for bringing clients into the EDS network.

ASI makes a deal of its own

Excellere Partners Inc. of Denver, bought an ownership
stake in Acquisition Solutions Inc. of
Arlington, Va. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The infusion of cash will let Acquisition Solutions
pursue what it is calling a multidimensional growth
strategy, which will include acquiring other companies.

SAIC buys SM Consulting

Science Applications International Corp. will buy
SM Consulting Inc., a linguistics services provider
to government and commercial clients. Financial
terms were not disclosed.

The Linthicum, Md., company offers language
training, information technology, management consulting,
business process outsourcing and logistics.
