L-3 division to partner with CloudShield

L-3 Communications Corp. has signed a services agreement with CloudShield Technologies Inc. to meet the expanded security needs of its government customers.

The agreement between L-3's Intelligence Solutions Division (ISD) and information security provider CloudShield of Sunnyvale, Calif., is intended to meet the growing demand from government agencies for a deep packet inspection product for computer network defenses.

DPI is a form of security inspection designed to examine the data or header part of a packet as it passes through an inspection point. The product searches for nonprotocol compliance, viruses, spam, intrusions and predefined criteria to decide if the packet can pass or if it should be routed elsewhere.

L-3 ISD security experts will evaluate each customer's security architecture and identify potential vulnerabilities. At that point, they can recommend architectural changes, set new security policies and configure, test and deploy new products on the CloudShield multiapplication platform, the company said.

L-3 Communications of New York ranks No. 9 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
