Blackwater buys training company

Blackwater Worldwide LLC has acquired Backup Training Corp. of Couer d'Alene, Idaho. Backup provides training tools to law enforcement agencies. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The company produces training courses on CD-ROM and has online coursework. More than 9,600 police departments have used Backup's training materials.

"Acquiring Backup will allow Blackwater to broaden its offerings and to provide our customers a fuller array of training solutions," said Jim Sierawski, Blackwater's vice president of Domestic Training and Operations.

Blackwater has come under scrutiny for a September incident in which its employees, acting as security guards in Iraq, got into a firefight that left several Iraqis dead.

Blackwater is ranked No. 91 on Washington Technology's 2007 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
