Army has new iPhone app, DHS terminates blog, Craig Newmark debuts site

The Army offers a new iPhone app while DHS kills off a blog and Craig Newmark debuts a new website.

The Army has made its popular social media handbook go mobile with a new iPhone application. The service's social media unit teamed up with a mobile application team at the Combined Arms Support Command at Fort Lee, Va., to begin testing the new application in early February. It is now available at the iTunes store. Next, the Army is promising an iPad application for the handbook.

The Homeland Security Department’s Leadership Journal took a three-month break, and now it is officially no more. Officials announced today the leadership blog is being consolidated it the department’s other official blog, which is named The Blog @ Homeland Security, for the purpose of forming “one unified blog.” The consolidated blog will continue to feature occasional posts from Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, the announcement said.

Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, today announced on Twitter a new website named craigconnects.org for creating personal connections with charitable and activist organizations, and fostering connections between those groups. He tweeted that the new project is “the biggest thing in my life now.”
