Harris receives $765M Navy portable radio contract

Harris Corp. has received a potential five-year, $765 million sole-source contract from the Navy for portable radios and associated parts.

The contract includes an initial base year through to September 2018 and options for an additional four years that could raise the award to its full ceiling value, the Defense Department said in its Monday contracts digest.

Products covered under the contract include handheld, manpack and other radios for fixed mount, vehicular and base station locations. The Navy seeks to fulfill its legacy tactical and portable radio requirements through the contract.

This award comes in the same week that Harris announced a separate $260 million order from an unidentified Asia-Pacific region country for radios and other products for a tactical communications network. Harris said Monday it booked the order in the first quarter of its 2018 fiscal year that started in July.
