NOAA plans for weather system launch by 2016
NOAA is looking for contractors support for the COSMIC-2 Data Process Center, which by 2016 will be distributing weather data across the globe.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association is looking for a contractor to help build its COSMIC-2 Data Processing Center by 2016.
The system processes and distributed weather system and NOAA is planning for a mature, fully automated state-of-the-art Global Navigation Satellite System Radio Occultation (GNSS RO) system to move the weather data. The GNSS-RO will deliver COSMIC-2 radio data with 99 percent reliability, have signification technical data processing and IT security, according to a new sources sought notice.
NOAA expects it to deliver timely COSMIC-2 operational data to the agency’s National Centers for Environmental Prediction in Taiwan and the other global Numerical Weather Prediction centers by mid-2016.
The contract would last from fiscal 2014 to fiscal 2022, with schedule system launches in fiscal 2016 and 2018.
NOAA released a sources sought notice May 29. Responses are due by June 30.
