Raytheon wins $115.5M contract to upgrade weapon system
Raytheon Co. has won a $115.5 million contract to upgrade the Navy’s MK15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS).
Raytheon Co. has won a $115.5 million contract to upgrade the Navy’s MK15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS).
The CIWS system is a fast-reaction terminal for defense against low- and high-flying, high-speed maneuvering anti-ship missile threats that have penetrated all other defenses. It is part of the Fleet Defense In-Depth concept and the Ship Self-Defense Program, according to the Defense Department.
Under the contract, Raytheon will provide upgrades and conversions, system overhauls and associated hardware.
Work will be performed in Williston, Vt., Melbourne, Fla., Andover, Mass., Louisville, Ky., Tempe, Ariz., Pittsburgh, Pa., Ottobrunn, Germany, Bloomington, Minn., Ashburn, Va., Phoenix, Ariz., El Segundo, Calif., Hauppauge, N.Y., Syracuse, N.Y., Salt Lake City, Utah, Joplin, Mo., Bracknell, U.K., Grand Rapids, Mich., Norcross, Ga., and is expected to be completed by September 2017.
