Boeing wins $104M DARPA project to lower satellite launch costs
The Boeing Company has won a $104 million DARPA contract to advance more efficient small satellite launch systems and bring costs down.
The Boeing Company was awarded a $104 million defense contract to advance small satellite launch systems.
The Airborne Launch Assist Space Access project is aimed at developing a significantly less expensive approach to launching satellites compared to current military and U.S. commercial launch costs.
The project has three focus areas:
- Radically advance launch systems.
- Develop a complete launch vehicle requiring no recurring maintenance or support.
- No specific integration to prepare for launch.
The award’s base value is $30.6 million with, two options totaling $74 million, bring the value to more than $104 million.
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency announced the award March 21.
