Forensic Technology wins $73.4M ATF contract for ballistic information network

Forensic Technology WAI Inc. has won a $73.4 million contract to provide the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms with services, software and equipment to support the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network, or NIBIN.

The NIBIN program was developed to work in concert with all of ATF’s firearms enforcement initiatives.

Through the program, ATF has integrated its expertise in the regulation of the firearms industry and the effective enforcement of federal firearms laws with technological advances in the forensic ballistics examination field, according to FedBizOpps.
 
The program uses the Integrated Ballistic Identification System, or IBIS, to compare images of ballistic evidence obtained from crime scenes and recovered firearms.

The IBIS system is an automated firearms identification system that is manufactured by Forensic Technology WAI.

Forensic Technology is a Canadian company that specializes in ballistics, crime scene and other law enforment technologies.
