Lockheed Martin plans fourth annual cybersecurity awareness day

Lockheed Martin, in partnership with the Tech Council of Maryland and the National Cyber Security Alliance, will host a cybersecurity awareness day and promote education and careers in the field.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the company has held this function, which will bring together more than 200 top performing science, technology, engineering and mathematics high school students and offer them the opportunity to learn safe online practices through workshops and presentations, Lockheed Martin said in a release.

“With employment projections by the U.S. Department of Labor showing that of the 20 fastest growing occupations projected for 2014, 15 require significant mathematics or science preparation, we need to encourage talented and energetic students to choose a path in STEM education and consider a future in the cyber security profession,” said Chandra McMahon, vice president of Commercial Markets and Cyber Security for Lockheed Martin’s IS&GS business.

This cybersecurity awareness day will aim to support the next generation workforce and foster students to pursue cybersecurity security careers and will also support the CyberMaryland initiatives that bring jobs and companies to Maryland.
