FEMA delays RFI due date again

FEMA has again delayed the due date for comments on a request for information for the communications needs of field offices that are set up to handle emergency situations. It is the second delay for the program tied to the government shutdown.

FEMA has again delayed the due date for a request for information it issued in early September to get support for its communications needs of field offices that are set up to handle emergency situations.

The new due date is now Friday, Oct. 18.

The date was originally Oct. 4, but was then pushed back to Oct. 11. The date was again pushed back to Oct. 18 because of the continuing government shutdown, according to FedBizOpps.

The RFI was issued to get support for joint field offices, or JFOs, which act as central locations for coordination of federal, state and local emergency responders, as well as tribal, non-governmental and private sector organizations.

FEMA wants these JFOs to be able to connect into the agency’s headquarters infrastructure and to other FEMA facilities during an emergency incident.

The RFI will help the FEMA CIO acquire turn-key wireless communications services, which will need to support voice, video and data.
