Verizon says good-bye to federal leader

Susan Zeleniak has retired after a 39-year career in the public sector, 16 with Verizon. The company has named Michael Maiorana as the new senior vice president for public sector.

Susan Zeleniak has retired as the leader of the public sector business in Verizon’s enterprise solutions group.

She led the company’s efforts in areas such as cloud computing and the pursuit of major contracts including the Networx telecom procurement.

Zeleniak retires after a 39-year career in public sector, spending the last 16 with Verizon.

The company has named Michael Maiorana as the new senior vice president of public sector. He will be responsible for sales and customer satisfaction in the federal, state and local markets as well for education and public safety customers in the United States.

He previously was president of the Washington-Baltimore-Virginia region for Verizon Wireless, responsible for sales, marketing, customer service, retail stores and expansion of the wireless network, the company said.

But he also has government experience, having led national government sales and operations for Verizon Wireless.

He first joined Verizon in 1990, and has a master’s of business administration from Montclair State University, and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Rutgers University.
