Virginia Tech wins surface warfare R&D work

Virginia Tech has won a $6 million contract to support the research and development needs of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division.

Virginia Tech has won a $6 million task order cost-type contract to provide services toward the research and development needs of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division.

Under the contract, Virginia Tech will perform research and development regarding technologies related to Navy ships and combat systems, the Defense Department said.

These services will include applied research, exploratory development through technology assessments and engineering studies in support of surface combat systems development, the Defense Department said.

Work will take place in Blacksburg, Va., and is expected to be completed by August 2015.

No funding is obligated at the time of the award.
