Lockheed Martin wins $39M Navy option for electronic warfare system

Lockheed Martin has won a $39 million option with the U.S. Navy for the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program Block 2 System low-rate initial production units.

The Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program, also known as SEWIP, is an acquisition program to upgrade the existing AN/SLQ-32(V) Electronic Warfare System.

The Block 2 will improve the receiver and antenna group that is necessary to keep capabilities current with the pace of the threat and to yield improved system integration, the Defense Department said in a release.

Work will be performed in Syracuse, N.Y., and Lansdale, Pa., and is expected to be completed by September 2014.

Funds in the full amount of the contract will be obligated at the time of the award, and will not expire at the end of fiscal 2013.
