ITT Exelis makes deal for communications firm

ITT Exelis expands its communications and mobile communications solutions through the acquisition of C4i Pty. Ltd.

ITT Exelis will acquire C4i Pty. Ltd from the Longreach Group Limited for $16.8 million, augmenting its communications software and mobile communications solutions

The communications software that C4i provides is used in air traffic management systems, and its mobile communications solutions are important for commercial, homeland security and defense systems worldwide.

The company is based in Australia with operations in the United States and Singapore.

It brings Internet Protocol-based voice control and switching solutions to ITT Exelis, allowing for large networks of radio devices to be integrated, the company said.

This technology provides operators with a fully integrated command and control system that enables enhanced safety and efficiency for air traffic control, ITT Exelis said.

“C4i’s interoperable communications solutions and engineering talent will complement Exelis’ strong and successful record of integrating, deploying and operating large scale communications networks for our air traffic management, commercial and defense customers," said Michael R. Wilson, Exelis Information Systems president.

"This acquisition expands our portfolio of critical infrastructure solutions, builds on our presence in Australia, and brings us closer to our customers and markets of interest,” he added.

The transaction is expected to close within the first quarter of 2013, and is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. It is not material to Exelis 2012 results, the company said.
