Lockheed takes on Labor data center consolidation initiative

Lockheed Martin Corp. will help the Labor Department make its data centers more energy efficient through a $59.4 million contract.

The company will consolidate Labor Department data centers into a single data center, and eventually move the data center to the cloud in search of more efficiency and to meet requirements of the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative, Lockheed Martin said in a statement.

A company spokeswoman said that Lockheed is partnered with ByteGrid, a provider of highly secure data center services, on the seven-year contract.

The company has consolidated one data center for Labor previously and has worked for the agency for more than eight years.

Other data center consolidation projects, including work for the Energy and Defense departments, the Federal Aviation Administration and its own IT enterprise, the company said.
