Five companies have won contracts worth $900 million to fight roadside bombs and other improvised explosive devices that kill and wound U.S. soldiers fighting in theater.

The contract from the General Services Administration's Federal Systems Integration and Management Center will support the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO)  Counter-IED Operations/Intelligence Integration Center. The contract was announced on Jan. 10.

The winners are:

  • BAE Systems Technology Solutions & Services Inc.
  • Lockheed Martin Corp.
  • SRA International
  • Science Applications International Corp.
  • Wexford Group International

The companies will now compete with each other for task orders. The contract has a two-year base with three one-year options.

According to GSA, the contractors will provide solutions to predict, preempt, and defeat the IED campaigns and other threats. They also will provide intelligence, irregular warfare, predictive, and special operations analysis support and IT sustainment support.
