SAIC wins construction job at Marshall Space Flight Center

Science Applications International Corp. has snagged a prime contract to further build out NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center's Facilities Management Office, in Huntsville, Ala.

SAIC, based in McLean, Va., will provide construction in phases under the follow-on contract, which has a one-year base period and four one-year options. The contract is worth more than $11 million, according to a Jan. 11 company announcement.  SAIC will also provide value engineering and building commissioning services such as building construction oversight, facilities operations and maintenance oversight of work performed by NASA contractors.

Other work will be completed at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, La.

Part of SAIC's mission is to ensure the new buildings perform as designed to save operating costs into the future, said JT Grumski, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager, in the statement.

NASA Marshall Space Flight Center operates the major components and systems for the International Space Station, among other functions.

SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 6 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
