Lockheed Martin announces more job cuts
Defense contractor announced June 30 that it will cut an additional 1,500 jobs from its airplane-making sector.
In anticipation of more defense spending cuts, Lockheed Martin Corp. announced on June 30 another round of layoffs, this time 1,500 in its airplane-making business division, according to the Associated Press.
Beginning in August, the company will offer voluntary layoffs to employees who are eligible and will begin layoffs in mid-September, the news service said.
These cuts will target higher paid workers in the larger divisions based in Fort Worth, Texas, Marietta, Ga., and Palmdale, Calif.
Lockheed Martin, of Bethesda, Md., ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
