Workforce cuts coming to Hewlett-Packard?

CEO warns of tough times and a personnel squeeze

Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Leo Apotheker has told his top deputies to brace for tough times, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Apotheker sent an email to 10 senior HP executives, asking them to cut expenses and slow their hiring plans.

The CEO cautioned the world's largest technology company by revenue is in for "another tough quarter," and its current workforce plans are unaffordable.

Hewlett-Packard Co., of Palo Alto, Calif., ranks No. 12 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
