AT&T, Verizon, XO Comm find $300M in contracts in the mail
The U.S. Postal Service is looking for data transport services, network operations and wireless communications, among other areas.
AT&T, Verizon and XO Communications Services Inc. have been awarded spots on a multimillion-dollar telecommunications contract from the U.S. Postal Service.
Verizon Business Services was awarded a six-year, $186 million contract; AT&T won a six-year, $100 million contract; and XO Communications received a six-year, $45 million contract, according to award notices released Jan.5.
Under the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts, the trio of telecom companies will compete for work to fully integrate the Postal Service’s telecommunications systems for billing, ordering and inventory.
They will initially provide secure data network services to the nearly 14,000 postal facilities. The Postal Service also is looking for data transport services, network operations and wireless communications, among other services.
The three companies have passed the initial pre-qualification process and are now eligible to compete for task and delivery orders. Beyond the six years, the USPS can opt for three four-year renewals, totaling an additional 12 years.
