BAE Systems buys defense, aerospace optics maker

BAE Systems Inc. is acquiring Oasys Technology, a private company that specializes in designing and manufacturing electro-optical systems and subassemblies for aerospace, defense, industrial and commercial markets.
Financial terms of the deal were not reported.
The acquisition of Oasys Technology will complement BAE Systems’ existing electro-optical capabilities, technologies and product offerings, BAE said in an announcement today.
OASYS Technology specializes in providing rugged and reliable solutions to complex and challenging electro-optical needs that meet the most demanding environmental conditions of land, sea, air, and space.
The company’s offerings are segmented into four primary markets: military products and accessories, laboratory and test instrumentation, optical assemblies, and optical components.
Oasys Technology employs 65 people at its design and manufacturing facility in Manchester, N.H.
Upon successful closing, Oasys Technology’s operations are expected to be integrated with BAE Systems business in Nashua, N.H.
The proposed acquisition is conditional, among other things, upon receiving certain U.S. regulatory approvals, and it is expected to close during the fourth quarter of 2010.
BAE Systems Inc., of Rockville, Md., ranks No. 15 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
