McDonnell appoints deputy for Duffey

Aaron Mathes previously served as CIO and information security officer in AG's office

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell on Friday named Aaron Mathes deputy secretary of technology, serving under Secretary of Technology Jim Duffey.

Mathes previously served as chief information officer and information security officer in the Office of the Attorney General, which he joined in 2006.

Before that, he worked at his alma mater, Liberty University, where he spent almost 11 years in various information technology management and leadership positions, including deputy chief information officer.

Mathes, his wife and their two sons live in Midlothian, Va., where he is involved in a local nonprofit organization called Noble Warriors, which ministers to men.

As technology secretary, Duffey recently helped Virginia and the Northrop Grumman Corp. reach agreement on modifications to the troubled 10-year, $2.36 billion statewide outsourcing contract Northrop had won in 2005.
