Northrop shopping for D.C. area headquarters

New corporate office to open in 2011

Northrop Grumman Corp. plans to move its corporate headquarters from Los Angeles to the Washington area by 2011, the company announced today.

The company is shopping for space in the District of Columbia proper, Virginia and Maryland. The search should be completed by spring with a new corporate office opening by summer 2011.

“As a global security company with a large customer base in the Washington, D.C., region, this move will enable us to better serve our nation and customers," Wes Bush, the company's chief executive officer and president, said in a statement.

The new corporate office will comprise 300 people.

Northrop Grumman’s statement was quick to point out that California remains an important location for the company, with 30,000 employees there. The company’s Aerospace Systems sector is headquartered in Redondo Beach, Calif.

Northrop Grumman is ranked No. 3 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.
