ITT to upgrade DOD radio software

IDIQ award could be worth as much as $62 million

ITT Corp. will upgrade radio software for the Defense Department under a five-year contract that could total $62 million if all options are exercised.

The award covers Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems (Sincgars) software in-service support for the Joint Tactical Radio System Joint (JTRS) Program Executive Office.

The work will include technical support, enhancements, maintenance and upgrades to the JTRS Sincgars system.

Potential services under the contract include structured software engineering and program management processes in support of effective and quality software development, ITT officials said.

ITT is partnering with Thales Communications Inc., of Clarksburg, Md., to perform the work.

The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract includes a two-year base period, with three one-year options.

Under the terms of the award, work will be performed by ITT’s Communications Systems business with an expected completion date in late 2010.

JTRS is a Defense Department program to develop software-programmable tactical radios that will provide voice, data and video communications for troops in battle, as well as interoperability across the battlefield.

ITT, of White Plains, N.Y., ranks No. 11 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
