Sprint pitches $2B emergency network
Before President Obama was even sworn in, Sprint got in its pitch for government to fund a $2 billion emergency network for first responders, a
Reuters report said.
The telecom laid out its five-year plan to the president-elect in a letter Jan. 6. The plan calls for 100 satellite-based light trucks that could respond in emergencies and 100,000 mobile handsets and equipment at about 40 preselected sites.
In a separate proposal, Sprint asked Obama to have the Federal Communications Commission look at re-regulating prices on telephone lines that route phone and Internet service, Reuters said.
Currently AT&T and Verizon control most of those lines.
