Alion to review Air Force inspection programs
Alion Science and Technology will assess the Air Force’s aircraft inspection programs under a one-year, $1.057 million contract
Alion Science and Technology Corp. will assess the Air Force’s aircraft inspection programs under a one-year, $1.057 million contract that aims to improve the process.
The award calls for the technology solutions provider to help the Air Force review its current Nondestructive Inspections (NDI) processes and recommend best practice changes to those procedures. Alion will review more than 90 safety inspections of flight critical structures across the Air Force fleet.
The contractor also will make recommendations for changes to inspection procedures and improvements to NDI equipment. If existing NDI tools are found to be insufficient, Alion will recommend modified NDI probes and tool kits.
Improvements to NDI procedures will reduce the number of missed cracks and broaden the inspection coverage area and accelerate the work, said Chris Amos, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Technical Solutions Group.
Alion is partnering with the Air Force NDI Program Office at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla.
Subcontractors include the Texas Research Institute and UniWest.
Alion, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 31 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
