WHO: J. EDWARD COLEMAN
WHY: Coleman is the
new chairman and chief
executive officer of
Unisys Corp., replacing
Joseph McGrath. Unisys
is touting him as a
transformation leader.
But it's unclear what that will mean for
Unisys. In his most recent role as CEO of
Gateway Inc., Coleman restructured that
company, culminating in its acquisition
by Acer Inc. But at Arrow Electronics, he
led the company into international markets
and brought a new emphasis on
software and services. He did the same
at CompuDom, where he was CEO and
chairman. He changed that company's
business model from being a reseller to
a services company.
WHO: EDWARD "TED" DAVIES
WHY: Davies will play a major role in
Coleman's efforts to revitalize Unisys as
the new president of Unisys Federal
Systems. He replaced Greg Baroni, who
abruptly left the company to pursue
other interests.
It has been a rough year
for Unisys Federal, particularly with its
work at the Transportation Security
Administration. The company had held
the agency's information technology
infrastructure contract, worth more than
$1 billion, since 2002, when TSA was
formed. But the agency bumped the
company out of the competition for the
next contract. Unisys Federal filed and
won a protest and is now back in the
competition. That contract generates a
significant part of the unit's more than
$1 billion in annual revenue.
