Microsoft names Kolcun to lead public-sector business
Curt Kolcun, formerly vice president of Microsoft Corp.'s federal division, has been promoted to vice president of its parent organization, Microsoft's Public Sector business group.
In this capacity, Kolcun is responsible for all of Microsoft's business in the federal government, state and local government, and education markets, including K-12 and higher education.
Kolcun replaces Linda Zecher, who has been promoted to an expanded role in Microsoft's Worldwide Public Sector group, according to a company statement. Zecher had served as vice president of the Public Sector group since 2003.
Kolcun was appointed vice president of the federal division in August 2003. He was responsible for sales, contracting, pre-sales technical support, and product marketing for the company's federal government market and strategic federal systems integrator business worldwide.
Kolcun was Microsoft's first systems engineer assigned to the Defense Department account, and he worked closely with the company's product groups to lead its initial field efforts on security, encryption and standards initiatives. He has also managed the federal division's pre-sales technology and engineering teams.
Kolcun has been at Microsoft for more than 18 years. He is on the executive committee of the Metropolitan Washington USO and is a board member of the Northern Virginia Technology Council and AFCEA International's National Capital Region.
He recently received the Association for Federal Information Resources Management Leadership Award for Industry and was selected for a Federal 100 award in 2008 by Federal Computer Week, a sister publication of Washington Technology.
